Public Health is important due to aiding and prolonging life. Through the prevention of health issues, individuals can spend more of their years in good health. Proposer sanitation helps detect health issues as early as possible and responds appropriately to avoid the development of disease.

As a part of Community Led Total Sanitation, SEARCH have been constructed 1556 Individual Household Toilets under SBM in Guntur & Prakasam districts of Andhra Pradesh. Created awareness and ensure 100% usage and 10 Villages became Open Defecation free. Governments have been declared all the villages as ODF and people are using the toilets. After elimination of Open defecation in the villages as ODF + we have been focusing on the next level of sanitation improvement of the ODF villages. In this process based on the villagers demand we started Rural Solid Waste Management programme as ODF + activity. 

Based on the villager’s demand started RSWM Programme with 3 Hubs, 2 Hubs Anathavarappadu and Cheekateegalapalem in Guntur and Chekurupadu Hub in Prakasam District and developed Hub villages as model villages and Resource Centers. 

As a part of programme expansion, we adopted Decentralized Model, this model useful to covered more spoke villages radiance 5km to Hub Villages. Decentralized Model is useful to small village have below 200 Households. Required one small room for Dry Waste Storage Centre (DWSC) and NADEP Pits for wet waste composting based on the village conditions. In this model helps to reduce manpower, time and money. This model helps to cover hamlets and small villages. Till 2018-19 we have been covered 3 Hubs and 29 spoke villages through Decentralized Rural Solid Waste Model.

• Covered 649 villages (including 206 villages Bapatla District and 443 in Palnadu district) in 2 districts in Bapatla & Palnadu of Andhra Pradesh.
